Young engineer wins prized College trophy - 26/07/2011

Apprentice Steven Swallow, who works for one of the area's most successful engineering firms, has won Norton Radstock College's highly prized Blatchford Cup.
There was loud applause when the young engineer's name was read out at Conygre Hall, Timsbury, where the annual Achievement Awards ceremony was held, due to renovations taking place at the main campus in Radstock.
Steven was unable to receive his trophy on the night, and it was presented to him later by Raymond Nicholson, head of the school of engineering.
Steven produces high quality welding for Facade Hoists, which has its head office in Silver Street, Midsomer Norton, and its factory at Coombend, Radstock. The firm was launched 30 years ago and is a leader in designing, manufacturing and servicing window cleaning hoists, suspended access equipment, gantries and safety lines.
Its projects include supplying equipment for Ireland's tallest building, The Elysdian, in Cork, for Terminal 5 at Heathrow, and for landmark buildings in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Cardiff.
Steven has been on weekly day-release, to enable him to attend training at the College.
